BE A PART OF the inaugural SOUTHSIDE PORCHFEST

  • What does it mean to be a porch host?

    • Being a host means that on the day of Porchfest, part of your home (your porch, driveway, front yard, stoop, or what have you) will become a venue where musicians will perform and pedestrians will hang.

    Are there specific requirements?

    • You will need a space outside that can comfortably fit a musical act.

    • Your space should also have easy access to a power supply.

    • There should also be enough space in front of your home where folks can stop and enjoy the music; eg. driveways, yards, balconies, sidewalks, and side streets.

    • Recommended things also include an available bathroom for performers and a space to keep instruments/gear when not in use (guitar cases, etc).

    • It’s also kind to provide water, at the minimum, for the performers, but feel free to provide other bevs and snacks too!

    • Don’t forget to place trash and recycling bins outside your home.

    • And if you’re the type of person who likes to go above and beyond, you are more than welcome to! We love to see porch hosts go above and beyond with their duties.

    Interested? Fill out this form.

  • Sponsorship dollars go directly to musicians performing and indirectly to the great community of Southside attending the event.

  • PERFORMER REQUIREMENTS

    • Coordinate with your porch host about the logistics of your performance (i.e. space needed, electricity needs, etc.).

    • Bring whatever gear you need for the performance you want to put on. No PA, sound, or other equipment is provided by the event.

    • Offer a family-friendly performance - read the room.

    • Play at a sound level respectful to the neighbors and/or other performers nearby - again, read the room.

    • Get the word out to everyone you know to drop by.

Know Before you go

  • Nope! The event is open to all and totally free.

  • Porchfest is not a conventional music festival. Everything you see, eat, or experience exists only because someone decided to step up and make it happen. Everything is volunteer-based, making every person involved (either hosting or attending), a de facto co-creator of the event.

Highland Park Porchfest is family-friendly and open to all, with all kinds of music to suit all kinds of tastes.

For attendees, all normal rules of law and order apply and, just like any other day, everyone remains responsible for their own behavior and welfare. Wander around, keep yourself safe, and watch out for others. Pretty simple.

  • Do not gather in the street- Please stick to yards and sidewalks, unless the road is closed for the day.

  • For real, don’t litter. Porch hosts should have trash and recycling bins - use them

  • If you’re able, please consider tipping the musicians and/or donating to the Red Bank Food Pantry.

  • Check out the map to see where the action is taking place.

  • Support local Southside businesses by eating and shopping during the lunch and dinner breaks.

  • Bring your own chair, cooler, and maybe a friend or three. Weather will be gorgeous. 😎
